DePuy paid $2.5 billion in 2013 to settle thousands of ASR hip lawsuits, and in March 2016, a jury awarded $502 million to patients who received the Pinnacle hip replacement. More lawsuits are awaiting trial for the same defective implant and more than $4 billion has been set aside to settle the remaining cases.
Stryker Hip Replacements
Stryker recalled its popular Rejuvenate hip replacement due to concerns about the safety of the hip implant. In November of 2014, Stryker agreed to settle thousands of claims for these devices for $1.43 billion. There are still many cases awaiting trial in court.
