Vigo County Truck Accident Linked to Illegal U-Turn

A Vigo County truck accident in West Central Indiana that sent one driver to the hospital appears to have been linked to an illegal U-turn.

Three Vehicles Involved in Vigo County Truck Accident

The Vigo County truck accident took place on Interstate 70 at approximately 8:30 a.m. on September 19, 2024.

At that time, a 34-year-old Crawfordsville man was driving a 2020 Ford truck westbound when he allegedly decelerated near mile marker 16 in order to make an illegal U-turn.  According to a statement from the Indiana State Police, this U-turn prompted a 27-year-old Indianapolis driver to rear-end the truck.

That collision seems to have caused the truck to veer south across the median into the eastbound lane of Interstate 70, where it was then struck by a 2021 Freightliner semi-trailer operated by a 42-year-old driver from Rosemead, CA.  Police say that this second crash forced the Ford truck back into the median while throwing the semi-trailer off the south side of the road.

The driver of the Ford truck was subsequently extracted by emergency responders and transported to an area hospital, where he was cited for making an illegal U-turn.  No other injuries have yet been reported.
