A woman is dead and four other people are injured following a Scott Township buggy crash with an SUV.
SUV Forces Buggy Off the Road
At approximately 8:26 p.m. on September 22, 2024, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) responded to an accident on State Road 19, about 1500 feet south of Country Road 1050 North, in Scott Township, IN. Deputies arrived at the scene to find a 2014 Ford Flex SUV driven by a 44-year-old Warsaw man and a horse and buggy operated by a 49-year-old Nappanee man.
Both vehicles had been traveling south on State Road 19 when the SUV allegedly struck the rear of the buggy, forcing it off the western side of the roadway.

Investigation of Scott Township Buggy Crash Continues
The SUV’s driver was apparently unharmed, though all five of the buggy’s occupants were injured in the Scott Township buggy crash, one fatally so.
The rear right passenger, a 76-year-old Nappanee woman, was transported to Elkhart General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from “critical injuries.” An 81-year-old male rear left passenger with back pain was taken to Elkhart General Hospital as well, along with a 7-year-old boy with a bruise on his head.
While the buggy’s operator suffered from shoulder and arm pain and his 50-year-front left passenger complained of pain to her lower leg, neither were reportedly treated at the emergency room in the immediate aftermath of the collision.
The horse also died from injuries sustained in the Scott Township buggy crash, which remains under investigation by the KCSO FACT Team.
