Rider Airlifted After Battle Ground Motorcycle Crash

A rider has been airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after being seriously injured in a Battle Ground motorcycle crash.

Lane Change Leads to Battle Ground Motorcycle Crash

The motorcycle accident took place at or near the 4500 block of Pretty Prairie Road in Battle Ground, IN.  At approximately 6:40 a.m. on September 19, 2024, a 33-year-old Monticello man was riding a Honda motorcycle southbound on Prairie Point Road, while a 22-year-old Lafayette man was driving a Dodge Charger in the northeast lane.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Dodge Charger then changed lanes in an attempt to pass another vehicle and struck the motorcycle in what was described as an “opposite direction side swipe.”

The driver reportedly sustained no injuries despite not being restrained by a seatbelt.  However, the motorcyclist suffered “life-threatening” injuries in the Battle Ground motorcycle crash, including a partially amputated left leg, for which he needed to be flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.

The roadway was closed for around three hours following the Battle Ground motorcycle crash, which remains under investigation.  Police have yet to release the name of the motorcyclist or further information about his condition.
