Multiple injuries have been reported in a series of Tuesday morning South Bend U.S. 20 Bypass pileups.

South Bend U.S. 20 Bypass Pileups Lead to Closure

The South Bend U.S. 20 Bypass pileups occurred some time before noon on January 14, 2025. According to a Facebook post by the St. Joseph County Police Department, three separate crashes took place on the St. Joseph Valley Parkway, known locally as the U.S. 20 Bypass, between Indiana 2 and Mayflower Road in South Bend, IN. One of those collisions allegedly involved “at least 10 to 15 cars.”

Emergency responders were subsequently called to the scene of the South Bend U.S. 20 Bypass pileups, during which an unconfirmed number of individuals were believed to have been harmed. The incidents were apparently caused by snowfall, slick road conditions, and freezing temperatures, which have prompted police to urge drivers to avoid the highway in the impacted area.

“I am out here and visibility is horrible!” said St. Joseph County Sheriff William Redman in the Facebook post. “Stay off the bypass!”

The South Bend U.S. 20 Bypass pileups have also led authorities to close the road as they work to address an “all hands on deck situation.”
