Man Killed in U.S. 27 Semi Truck Accident

An elderly man was killed Wednesday night in a fiery multi-vehicle U.S. 27 semi truck accident south of Fort Wayne, IN.

27 Semi Truck Accident Under Investigation

The tragic collision took place at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Flatrock Road some time before 6:30 p.m. on November 6, 2024.  According to authorities, a 77-year-old Fort Wayne man was driving a pickup truck north on U.S. 27 when he moved into the southbound lane of traffic and crashed into another pickup truck.   A semi truck then crashed into both pickup trucks, which in turn caused the first pickup truck to catch fire.

Deputies from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were subsequently called to the scene of the U.S. semi truck accident, where the first pickup truck’s driver was pronounced dead and the second pickup truck’s driver was transported to a hospital in “serious condition.”  An autopsy by the Allen County Coroner’s Office later determined that the first driver had died from multiple blunt force injuries and that the manner of his death was an accident.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area in the immediate aftermath of the U.S. 27 semi truck accident, which remains under investigation.
