Woman Killed in Kokomo Patrol Car Accident

A woman has been killed in a Kokomo patrol car accident in which another driver may have been intoxicated.

Kokomo Patrol Car Accident Under Investigation

The deadly crash took place in the North Central Indiana city of Kokomo at around 11:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025, when an on-duty officer of the Kokomo Police Department was driving northbound on State Road 931, approaching its intersection with Vaile Avenue.  At that time, a Ford passenger vehicle pulled into State Road 931 directly in front of the officer’s marked patrol car, causing the officer to strike the passenger vehicle on its passenger side.

The Ford’s 55-year-old female passenger was later pronounced dead at the scene of the Kokomo patrol car accident by the Howard County Coroner’s Office, while the officer was treated at a local hospital for “minor injuries” and released.

The collision is currently being investigated by the Indiana State Police (ISP), which noted in a statement that troopers “were able to develop probable cause to believe” that the Ford’s driver, a 32-year-old Kokomo man, “was under the influence of suspected alcohol.”

The driver was then transported to an area hospital for a certified test before being brought to an Indianapolis hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries.

The results of that test are still pending, but the ISP said that the full report of its investigation into the Kokomo patrol car accident will be turned over to the Howard County Prosecutor’s Office for review once it is complete.
