Man Arrested Following Fort Wayne Drunk Driving Accident

A man has been arrested and two other individuals have been hospitalized following a Fort Wayne drunk driving accident on early Sunday morning.

Driver Allegedly Fled Police Prior to Crash

At around 1:40 a.m. on October 6, 2024, police encountered a vehicle “driving recklessly” near South Barr Street and East Oakdale Drive on the south side of Fort Wayne, IN.  When the officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, it allegedly fled north on South Lafayette Street, then rear-ended an uninvolved vehicle at South Lafayette Street’s intersection with East Dewald Street.

The fleeing vehicle’s 34-year-old male driver was immediately arrested after the Fort Wayne drunk driving accident and taken to the Allen County Jail, where he was booked on three counts, including:

• Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury;
• Criminal recklessness; and
• Operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

Fort Wayne Drunk Driving Accident Inflicts “Life-Threatening” Injuries

The suspect also reportedly suffered “minor” injuries in the Fort Wayne drunk driving accident, in stark contrast to the “life-threatening” injuries inflicted upon the driver he struck.

According to authorities, the second driver was rushed from the scene of the crash to an area hospital, as was the suspect’s passenger, who was said to be in “serious, but stable condition.”
