I got ready to get into the intersection. That’s when I noticed that this truck wasn’t stopping. She had t-boned me. I think the first thought that came to my head was this is it. And then I slid down into a ditch. My truck rolled multiple times. I was a first responder for 9 years. And I’d been to accidents. So being in that situation on the other side, I knew as soon as I started hearing those sirens, I was going to be in good hands. A training captain that I’d been with, he’s the first one showing up. And then my assistant chief, the ride in that ambulance, like every time we would hit a little something, that’s when I started noticing like, oh, my neck, my neck. So, I just started a great job, greatest job I’ve had ever. And so, I’m thinking, here’s this new employee going to be off work for a while. And I hadn’t had my anxiety level that high for a long time. And even my grandfather told me like, you got to watch out for the insurance companies because they’re all about giving you the least amount possible for your your claim. He had told me in the past and he reassured me even then that if you get injured, you know, contact your lawyer. And I said, “Okay.” And like I’m choosing in like I it was an easy decision for me. So after I’d gotten off the phone, I felt just more reassured because all of the things that I didn’t know about that I had questions about, it just took a lot of relief and stress off of me because I was more focused on getting myself back to better health, back to work as soon as possible. So, I didn’t have to worry about the things that I didn’t have answers for.
