On a late afternoon in December 2024, Tiffany, a 44-year-old claims support specialist, was rear-ended while she was stopped at a red light on 82nd Street near Allisonville Road in Indianapolis, IN. The car behind her had been traveling so fast that it practically demolished the undercarriage of the compact SUV that Tiffany had purchased only four months before – her first new vehicle ever.
“The whole underneath of it, and myself, took the injury,” said Tiffany.
“I Don’t Remember How to Walk”
The severity of “the injury” quickly became clear when Tiffany asked to borrow the phone of the 20-year-old who struck her so that she could request emergency assistance.
“She’s like, ‘Well, I’m too scared to walk to a stranger’s car. Can you come to my car?’” Tiffany recalled.
“I’m like, ‘No, I can’t walk.’
“‘You can’t walk? I just rear-ended you.’
“‘Yeah, that’s the reason why I can’t walk.’”
As Tiffany told a friend who came to pick her up from the scene of the crash, “‘I don’t remember how to walk. Is it one foot in front of another to walk?’ And I kept on repeating that to her over the night.”
Major Injuries Requiring Major Treatment
After being taken to a local hospital, Tiffany was diagnosed with a dislocated hip, a fractured pelvis, two pinched nerves in her back, cervical impairment, and a concussion.
The collision also exacerbated Tiffany’s preexisting functional neurological disorder (FND) and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), conditions she had developed following an earlier car accident in 2015 but which she had subsequently gotten under control.
“I had put that in remission,” she explained, “and she brought that back out.”
These major injuries required major treatment, including nine separate procedures and one surgery to repair Tiffany’s hip, along with extensive physical and neurological therapy to relearn such basics as walking, climbing stairs, and even standing to cook. In fact, a recent weekend in November marked “the first time I stood and cooked myself dinner both days” since the incident.
Despite her many challenges, Tiffany was still grateful to have a loyal network of people she could rely on to get her through this difficult period, with friends and family members to help her with daily tasks and Hensley Legal Group, PC to help her get the compensation she deserved.
“You Need to Use Hensley”
As funny as it may seem to her now, Tiffany was initially reluctant to hire a personal injury lawyer because of the immense “stress” she had endured with her previous car accident case.
“The last time I went through this, it was four years, and we were two weeks from going to a jury trial,” she said, a process that she felt was unnecessarily “dragged out” and caused her to miss “health opportunities” that might have led to a better outcome.
Luckily, Tiffany’s chiropractor didn’t want her to go through a similar ordeal either. “I know you used a different person last time,” he insisted, “but this time you need to use Hensley.”
And she’s definitely glad that she did, since she couldn’t imagine a greater contrast between how her prior case was handled and the attention she received at HLG from her attorney Jessica Guldner and her case manager Mie’sha Mayberry.
“It’s all just been very easy,” said Tiffany, who spoke warmly about how “loving,” “caring,” and “friendly” Jessica and Mie’sha have been and had nothing but praise for the nurturing environment that everyone at the firm strived to create – as well as the results they were able to deliver.
Ten Months from Start to Finish
Unlike the four grueling years that it took for Tiffany’s original car accident claim to reach a conclusion, Hensley was able to successfully resolve her current case in a total of ten months from start to finish, and service was never sacrificed for the sake of speed.
Indeed, after rejecting a number of potential settlements proposed during negotiations, Tiffany’s team ultimately got the defendant’s insurance company to agree to tender its full policy limits, more than three times the insurer’s opening offer.
Tiffany is incredibly satisfied with how everything turned out, especially considering how dark her future once looked.
“When you go through a situation like this of multiple injuries, surgeries, recovery, learning to walk again, which is scary, but then you have your team saying, ‘You got this, you can do this,’ it just brings tears to my eyes.”
