WFIE 14 News is reporting that over 1,100 backpacks were distributed at Hensley Legal Group’s recent Backpacks 4 Good drive-thru in Evansville, IN.

Backpacks Available Completely Free of Charge

Since launching in 2021, Backpacks 4 Good has handed out more than 53,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students throughout the State of Indiana, and 10,000 more are scheduled to be handed out this summer. Each backpack is available completely free of charge and contains:

Two pocket folders
Classic no. 2 pencils
Pencil sharpener
Pencil pouch
Crayons
Glue stick
5″ scissors
Water bottle

The Evansville Backpacks 4 Good was held at Lincoln School on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., and Hensley went out of its way to help everyone beat the heat.

“Parents get to drive through and the kids get to pick out what color backpacks they want,” explained HLG attorney Mitch Waldroup.

Volunteers then brought the backpacks directly to the grateful families, who never had to leave the comfort of their vehicles.

Hensley put the Evansville drive-thru together in proud partnership with the Evansville Aces basketball team, Navis Pack and Ship, and the Black Nurses of Evansville, all of whom volunteered at the event.

“Anytime we have the opportunity to give, we’re gonna do it,” Derricka Dowell, a member of the Black Nurses of Evansville, told 14 News. “Being a nurse, it’s in our blood to serve and to give. If we have that opportunity, we are going to come out here and we’re gonna help these children.”
