At least two people were injured in a Kentland train collision with a semi truck and a car, according to authorities.

Kentland Train Collision Pulls Vehicles 60 Feet

The train accident took place at a railroad crossing at the intersection of U.S. 41 and U.S. 21 in Kentland, IN, where a northbound semi truck had stopped at a red light some time before 12:30 p.m. on December 3, 2024.

The truck’s driver, a 36-year-old man from Addison, IL, then allegedly disregarded the red light and proceeded into the intersection. The truck was subsequently struck by a westbound train and pushed into a passenger car that had been waiting in a designated turning lane, and the force of the crash pulled both motor vehicles approximately 60 feet from the intersection.

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and emergency personnel were called to the scene of the Kentland train collision shortly afterwards. The car’s 17-year-old female driver was flown to an Indianapolis hospital, while the truck’s driver was transported to Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL.

The Sheriff’s Office later closed the roadway for approximately seven hours so that the site could be cleaned up and the Kentland train collision could be investigated.
