Around 2:30 a.m. on a Friday in November 2025, Carrie, a 23-year-old model, bartender, and Hawaii native, was driving her Volkswagen Taos down Keystone Way at its intersection with 24th St. in Indianapolis, IN.
She had been returning home from the gas station with her infant daughter Maliyah in the backseat, but her trip was soon cut short by a Jeep Wrangler that was headed straight for her.
“It Sounded Like Somebody Let a Gun Off”
“She was all the way in my lane,” Carrie explained, “and so I was trying to honk my horn to see if the person would realize and move back over to her side of the road or something.”
When the other driver didn’t respond, Carrie tried to avoid her by moving over, but “she also started to move over, so she still hit me pretty much dead on.”
A friend who had been following Carrie later said that “the crash was so loud, it sounded like somebody let a gun off in his ear” and that she was unconscious and started to come out “headfirst” when he opened her passenger door, although he helped her sit back upright again.
Extreme Injuries Requiring Extensive Treatment
Carrie kept drifting in and out of consciousness throughout the ambulance ride to the hospital. She was admitted for six days with extreme injuries, including a broken right hip and pelvis that required the surgical implantation of two plates and ten screws, along with a gash on her right temple that had to be closed with 17 stitches.
Maliyah was also examined at the hospital for generalized bodily trauma. But while the child’s medical journey fortunately ended there, her mother’s was only beginning.
As Carrie recalled, “I had a walker, I had to hop on one leg for seven weeks, and I couldn’t put any weight on my other leg.” She subsequently underwent an extensive physical therapy regimen that lasted well into the new year.
Although she is relieved that she is “finally able to walk again on my own with no pain medicine,” she regrets being prevented from working as a bartender or pursuing her modeling career while she recovered.
“I had shows booked, I had photo shoots booked, but I was not able to do them because of the accident,” Carrie said. Additionally, she had to rely on her mother, her aunt, and her friend Daisy to lend a hand with chores and childcare during this period.
“Another Weight Lifted Off My Shoulders”
While Carrie certainly had a lot of bad luck as 2025 came to a close, she remains grateful for one stroke of good luck – or actually two strokes of good luck at more or less the same time.
“Like I said, I’m a model,” she told us, “and I work with a designer who has a friend that works for Hensley, and so she had recommended me to them. And then also my mom had kind of just Google searched, and you guys were the first people that popped up too.”
Carrie’s team at Hensley included attorney Jessica Guldner and case manager Lydia Walker, and she has nothing but praise for the level of service they provided.
“They were always like, ‘There’s no problem, don’t worry about anything, we’re taking care of it,’” Carrie said. “Anything I would ask about, they were like, ‘Oh, it’s done already,’ so that was really nice. Another weight lifted off my shoulders.”
Maximum Amount of Compensation Available
Thanks to the firm’s heavy lifting, Carrie was ultimately able to receive both the full liability insurance policy limits on the defendant’s vehicle and the full underinsured motorist (UIM) policy limits on her own vehicle.
This represented the maximum amount of compensation available to resolve Carrie’s claim, allowing her to put herself back in school, purchase another car, and pay off a loan, and Hensley managed to secure a generous settlement for Maliyah as well.
Asked what she would tell somebody else who’s thinking about hiring Hensley, Carrie didn’t hesitate: “I would say do it.
“You guys are really attentive, very professional, and just honestly easy to work with,” she continued. “I’m always the person that wants to know the reason for everything, and they were able to give me an answer for all the questions that I had with no problem, with ease. Like, everything was just so easy.”
