Kim thought she was going to save herself some time by heading out of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game at Lucas Oil Stadium a few minutes early, but what took place instead almost cost the 53-year-old accountant everything.

Her professional and personal lives were similarly impacted. Even more distressing, her injuries prevented her from performing her duties as the leader of a local Girl Scout troop, and the interruption couldn’t have come at a worst moment either.

“This happened right in the middle of cookie season,” she recalled, “so I couldn’t lift the cookie boxes. I couldn’t go help the girls sell the cookies. I was pretty immobilized.”
