May 11, 2011 – An Indiana construction accident led to the deaths of 2 men working on a radio tower, early Wednesday, April 13.
Five men were installing a Schurz Communications WXXB radio tower, near Buck Creek, when around 9 a.m. 2 of the men fell 340 feet with installing equipment in hand.
The victims of the Indiana construction accident were Paul Aliff, 32, from Mesquite, Texas, and Ernest Garcia, 29, from Laredo, Texas, who both were employees of ERI, Inc. in Chandler, Indiana. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration will be fully investigating the Indiana construction accident.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2009 14% of fatal injuries were related to falls. In Indiana alone, 20 deaths due to a falling incident were reported in 2010.
