January 3, 2011 – Indianapolis, IN – A drunk driving accident on the city’s Far Southside has left one 12-year old girl dead and another injured.
According to an article from indystar.com, 30-year-old Trenton Gaff struck the girls on December 19 as they walked along Bluff Road in the right of way, near the 6700 block. While there was no sidewalk in the area, Gaff’s gray SUV had to leave the road in order to make contact with the girls, according to a written statement from Kendale Adams, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson.
Both girls were taken to Methodist Hospital, where Tierra Pierson died from her injuries at around 6 p.m. The other victim, January Canada, sustained a concussion and was later released.
Gaff, of Indianapolis, was given blood alcohol tests at Wishard Memorial Hospital, but those results have not yet been released. He was however arrested and charged with 2 Class B felonies for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in serious bodily injury.
It was expected for one of Gaff’s felony charges to be upgraded on December 20 to operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in death. While witnesses said Gaff did stay at the scene of the accident, he holds a previous 2003 conviction in Hamilton County for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
