Two recent studies have prompted the FDA to issue a drug safety communication citing the potential for an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in men who were treated with prescribed testosterone therapy.
The FDA has not confirmed the connection at this time, but they are recommending that doctors discuss whether the benefits of FDA approved testosterone therapy outweigh the risks.

- Released a study to assess the association between testosterone therapy in veterans and complications including: death, myocardial infarction, or stroke. The study found that patients with pre-existing heart conditions were at an increased risk of “adverse outcomes”.

- Released a study looking at the risk of acute non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI) after an initial prescription of testosterone therapy. The study found in older men and younger men with pre-existing diagnosed heart disease a substantial increase of MI following the prescription of testosterone therapy.
